Two Poems

by Lily, aged 9

1. Rainbow

When the alley cat turned

a dog barked loudly
a baby smiled
an apple fell
the rain started
a door closed
a fireplace was lit
some scones baked
a ginger cat lay on a rug
a bird on the windowsill
it stopped raining

a rainbow came out

2. The Beach

When I was old

a lorikeet landed on the branch
the sun shone
a Siamese cat wandered in
a sparrow sang
trees swayed gently
flowers grew
the sky darkened
the moon rose
kitty went to sleep
light turned off
the waves of sea curled over soft sand
the pearly whiteness of the shells
moonlight, a path on the sea
lying in a hammock

was little old me.
